Description: Charles Dickens handwritten cheque to his builder in 1862. Bank check (7 x 3.25), filled out and signed by Dickens, payable to W. Coachman for £5.13.6, 1862. Walter Couchman was involved with Charles Dickens as the builder of the mini Swiss chalet at Gads Hill, where Dickens resided for many years. Usually people of note just sign letters and cheques with staff filling out or writing the appropriate contents, but Dickens has completed the whole process in his own hand. A few minor separations along intersecting folds, 2 vertical folds through signature and scattered tone. Pre certified PSA/DNA and with COA by RR Auctions. Charles John Huffam Dickens (7/2/1812 – 9/6/1870) was the most popular English writer of the Victorian era. Thanks to movies, audiotapes and even books, Dickens remains popular today. VG

Decription: Captain Cooks Third Voyage Lithograph, depicting a Human Sacrifice in Otaheite (Tahiti) by John Webber (1752-1793). The drawing features Tahitians with Cook assembled at the sacrificial scene with some of his men. The lithograph in black and white by W. Woollett (approx 47.5x27cm) matted and timber framed under museum quality UV protection glass. John Webber was appointed as the official artist for Captain James Cook's third voyage of discovery. A successful landscape artist, Webber did illustrations for the three volume set of the official record of the voyage and on returning to London, exhibited these works at the Royal Academy. It was on this third voyage that Cook was killed in Hawaii on 14 February 1779 after a dispute with the local inhabitants. This drawing would have been done in 1776 since Tahiti was Cooks first landing to return Omai, a young native of the island of Huahine who had travelled to England aboard the Adventure during Cooks second voyage and the first Pacific Islander to visit England.  EF
