Lot: 022     Category: World Banknotes
Description: France French Revolution Assignat notes, 5 Livres set of 27 signatures, from Series 78B to 26912. Many damaged with tattered edges and toning, but a great set nonetheless. The French Revolution began in 1789, and as it progressed, saw the end of power of the Monarchy and Catholic Church and the nationalization of assets. After, finances of the new state were stretched, so the government issued assigns-certificates representing the value of confiscated church properties until 1796. Originally meant as bonds, they evolved into a currency used as legal tender. A nice set. (27 notes total).   VG-aVF
