| Description: South Africa Emergency issue Matabeleland postage stamp currency cards, set of 5; 3 Pence, 6 Pence (2 varieties), 1 Shilling and 2 Shillings. All signed on back by Marshall Hole and issued during the Anglo-Boer War. In Bulawayo during the Anglo-Boer War there was a shortage of coins to pay African labourers, so the serving Government Secretary and Civil Commissioner, Marshall Hole, authorised the issue of small cards bearing British South Africa Co postage stamps which were stamped on the back with his signature. They circulated between 1-8-1900 and 1-10-1900. Paper toned, some marks, corner torn to 1 Shilling. Scarce and rarely seen. (5 notes total). USED |
