Description: Byzantine Empire gold Solidus Phocas (602-10 AD). Constantinople mint issued 607-10 AD, officina l.E. (S. 620, DOC 10e, BMC 10-11, T.8, R.1181). Obverse: facing bust of Phocas bearded with cuirass, paludamentum, crown and holding cross with ON FOCUS PERP AVI around. Reverse: Angel facing, holding long staff in right hand with partial chi-rho symbol and globe with cross on top in left hand with VICTORIA AVGUE around. Small c grafittied in Reverse field and scratch, small o in Obverse, with bloom. Ex Nobles S 133 July 2023 (Lot 3567). Rare.   EF
