Description: First Bill of Exchange 1-8-1832 for 72 Pounds, 3 Shillings and 1 Pence. Issued at Augusta and payable to Captain Molloy by John G Bussell, addressed to Captain Swanston; Director of Derwent Bank, Van Diemens Land and endorsed on back by Molloy. An important historical item linking the settlement in Western Australia with Van Diemens Land. Piece missing from right edge otherwise on large piece of paper, multiple pinholes and punch hole. Extremely rare. Ex W.J.D. Mira Collection and Nobles S 79 July 2005, lot 2873. John Molloy 1780-1867- fought with the 95th Regiment in the Peninsular War and later at Waterloo where he was badly wounded. He received the Military General Service Medal with 8 bars and the Waterloo Medal. In 1830 he and his wife to the Swan River Settlement disembarking from the 'Warrior' at Fremantle in March 1830 and was granted land at Augusta. He became a JP and then a resident Magistrate, and later gazetted as a lieutenant Colonel.    VF
