Description: Ancient Greece, Kingdom of Macedon AR Tetradrachm Perseus N/D (179-168 BC). Reduced Attic standard, either Pella or Amphipolis mint, issued 173-172 B.C. for the AY mintmaster. (S.6804, SNG Cop. A.Mamroth 25 [ZfN. 1928], HG 3, 1094). Obverse: laureate bearded head of Perseus to right; Rev: eagle standing on thunderbolt, BASI LEWS above, PER SEWS below, monograms QE above, AY monogram to right of eagle, AN monogram below eagle legs, all within an oak-wreath beneath which is a plow. Light tone with bloom, and with a rare group of monograms.
