Lot: 1476     Category: Holey Dollars and Dumps
Description: Holey Dollar Five Shillings NSW 1813 contemporary forgery. Struck on an 1810 H.J Ferdinand VII 8 Reales, Mexico mint. Ex R Jewell and P Spalding collections. Illustrated in Spalding pp 236 (fig 83) and Mira/Noble (C 1810/1) pp 71. Interesting in that the forger had noted a previous omission of the date (1813) but then forgot to engrave it in reverse with it reading 3181 instead of 1813. Very rare and highly collectable.   aVF
