Lot: 1477     Category: Holey Dollars and Dumps
Description: Holey Dollar Five Shillings NSW 1813 contemporary forgery. Struck on an 1813 JP Ferdinand VII 8 Reales, Lima mint. Ex Canadian Numismatic Association auction, Canadian Coin Exchange 1961 (Lot 2262), Spink and Sons Ltd WB Peck Collection, R Jewell collection, P Spalding collection. Illustrated in Spalding pp 235 (fig 823) and Mira/Noble (c1813/1) pp 71. Interesting in that the forger had missed the date 1813, resulting in a dateless countermark coin. Hole a little off centre with some weakness in strike. Very rare and highly collectable.   gFINE
